The ASO-S satellite project was reported in the Mission Control column of 《Nature Astronomy》

Date:2022-01-21

At the invitation of the editorial department of the journal 《Nature Astronomy》, Dr. Gan Weiqun, the chief scientist of the ASO-S satellite project at the Purple Mountain Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other researchers wrote an article entitled "A Chinese Solar Observatory in Space" for the Mission Control column of the journal, which was published online on January 21, 2022. Combining the background of international solar space exploration, this paper briefly introduces the scientific objectives, payload composition and current status of ASO-S satellite.

The ASO-S satellite is currently at the end of the prototype development phase, and is planned to be launched into the sun synchronous orbit at the height of 720 km in 2022. After three to six months of on orbit commissioning after the launch of the satellite, it will enter the normal working mode, and all scientific data products and data analysis software will be open to the public at that time. The publication of this article in 《Nature Astronomy》is very helpful for global solar physicists to understand the ASO-S project in advance and use ASO-S data in the future.
